New York Suffrage Parade, Fall 1917

It was during one of the 2017 women’s suffrage marches in New York City that the founders of the WNBA met and coalesced around the idea of an organization to support women in the book world. Women, at that time, were shut out of the all-male American Booksellers Association and the Bookseller’s League. In Part One, you will find information about the establishment of the WNBA, Pen and Brush, and other women’s groups during the Progressive Era. © League of Women Voters
